Blog & Film Times: 23 Aug – 29 Aug

Goooood Afternoon!

Lone Ranger, Alan Partridge, Bachelorette, and Percy Jackson have all left us this week! But fear not, brand new comedy We’re the Millers, along with Elysium and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones have all joined us for another week of movie madness here at the Plaza! Also on Thursday we’re showing One Direction: This is Us – but if you want to see it on Thursday do book your tickets soon, as it’s nearly sold out! Fear not 1D fans, it’s also showing from Friday 30th!

Note that We’re The Millers and Elysium are both rated 15 (as is Kick-Ass 2 which is still showing), and so you will be asked for ID if you look under 18. Valid ID includes passport (or photocopy of passport), student card, birth certificate with bank card, Pass ID card, and driving license.

As always, happy cinema going!

Review – Monsters University

Monsters University (U)

reviewed by Dan Spracklen1001490_10151686957589312_1387255512_n
Kids and grown ups alike will love this prequel to 2001’s family favourite. We see Mike and Sully as kids starting University, at Monsters University – where they want to become scarers. From start to finish this film will keep you entertained, wondering what will happen next. Monsters Inc was one of the first films I ever watched as a kid, so for it’s got to be a must-see for teens! In Monsters University, we see Mike and Sully fight for their place on the ‘scaring programme’ by entering a scaring competition with a small team of ‘nobodies’ who really don’t have much in the way of scaring skills. A really clever idea from Disney/Pixar and a film not to be missed this summer!

Kids will love seeing all the colourful monsters, adults will appreciate the story, and teens will, i’m sure, love seeing all their favourite childhood characters back on the big screen! There really is something for everyone in the latest offering from Disney.

To book your tickets, head over to or pop into the cinema when we’re open!

BLOG & FILM TIMES Fri 19 July – Thu 25 July

Hi everyone!

… and the weather continues to be hot! Not to worry, we’ve got ice cold slush puppies at the ready so come in and cool off! All our screens are fully air conditioned, too! We say goodbye to Now You See Me and The Internship, but today we say hello to the latest from comedy duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost… The World’s End. Will they get to the end of the epic pub-crawl? Or will an alien invasion get in the way? it’s a 15 so it’s very important if you look under 18 that you bring some form of ID, otherwise you won’t be getting in!

Monsters University continues this week in 3D and 2D, along with Despicable Me 2 showing in 2D.  Our charity showing of Monsters University on Saturday at 8pm still has tickets left! They’re £3.50 each from the box office, all proceeds to West Dorset Women’s Refuge.

If robots and aliens fighting is more your thing, then you’ll want to check out Pacific Rim, still showing this week! On Thursday we’ve got an advanced screening of The Wolverine, be sure to book your tickets in advance for the latest in the razor-sharp franchise.

That’s all for now, happy cinema-going!
