Film Times FRI 6 – THURS 12 SEPT

Evening!

Sorry for lack of blog last week and this weeks lateness. So, it’s back to school time! But that doesn’t mean we haven’t got plenty of choice for both kids and parents alike for an evening escape into the world of film. The new Riddick (15) is now showing, and we’ve kept light hearted new comedy We’re The Millers (15) for another week. Also showing this week is One Direction: This is Us (PG), and new romance About Time (12A) along with plenty more!

Happy cinema-going!

Blog & Film Times Fri 2nd August – Thurs 8th August

Hello there!

We’ve had some extremely busy days over this last week or so… especially when the weather’s not been as good – so if you’re planning on coming on a rainy day we recommend buying your ticket in advance! Also we now sell Orange slush puppies (instead of red), just for a change!

New this week we’ve got the brand new comedy RED 2 (12A), starring Helen Mirren. In this, retired C.I.A. agent Frank Moses reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device. We’ve got The Smurfs 2 (U) showing in 2D & 3D this week, as well as keeping Despicable Me 2 (U), Monsters University (U), Wolverine (12A), and World’s End (15)! On Wednesday and Thursday, we’ve got advanced screenings of Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (PG).

We’ve also got new strawberry mentos on sale at the moment – grab some for only 50p! (while stocks last).

That’s all for now, enjoy the show!

BLOG & FILM TIMES Fri 19 July – Thu 25 July

Hi everyone!

… and the weather continues to be hot! Not to worry, we’ve got ice cold slush puppies at the ready so come in and cool off! All our screens are fully air conditioned, too! We say goodbye to Now You See Me and The Internship, but today we say hello to the latest from comedy duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost… The World’s End. Will they get to the end of the epic pub-crawl? Or will an alien invasion get in the way? it’s a 15 so it’s very important if you look under 18 that you bring some form of ID, otherwise you won’t be getting in!

Monsters University continues this week in 3D and 2D, along with Despicable Me 2 showing in 2D.  Our charity showing of Monsters University on Saturday at 8pm still has tickets left! They’re £3.50 each from the box office, all proceeds to West Dorset Women’s Refuge.

If robots and aliens fighting is more your thing, then you’ll want to check out Pacific Rim, still showing this week! On Thursday we’ve got an advanced screening of The Wolverine, be sure to book your tickets in advance for the latest in the razor-sharp franchise.

That’s all for now, happy cinema-going!

THE WORLD’S END starring Simon Pegg & Nick Frost – Starts Friday!

The World’s End (15 – ID required if you look under 18, parental consent not valid ID)

They’ve given us Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Paul… and now, from Director Edgar Wright, they give us The World’s End. Starts Friday here at the Plaza and you’ll be able to book from tomorrow (Monday).

Synopsis: 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realise the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

Charity Screening – Monsters University – Saturday 20th July

BLOG & FILM TIMES Fri 12 – Thurs 18 July

Good evening!

The weather’s been soooo hot recently, but fear not! Our screens are air conditioned (though sadly Screen 2’s air con unit broke down this week but should be being fixed Friday morning!). We also sell ice cold slush puppies and delicious Purbeck ice cream to help you cool down!

This week sees 2 major releases jump onto our screens here at the Plaza – Monsters University (U) – the highly anticipated prequel to the 2001 animated smash hit from Disney/ Pixar. AND Pacific Rim (12A) – action-packed film about huge monsters fighting huge robots. Both showing in 2D and 3D this week. We’ve still got the extremely popular Despicable Me 2 (U) showing every day this week (now only in 2D). We’re also still showing The Internship (12A) and Now You See Me (12A) for those who’ve not yet had a chance to see these!

DON’T FORGET our charity performance of Monsters University 2D on Saturday 20th July, 8pm. Tickets £3.50 each, cash only at the box office – all proceeds to West Dorset Women’s Refuge. Fancy dress optional & there’ll be prizes for the best ones! This is by kind permission of Disney Pictures UK and Mr Adam Cunard (Managing Director of Picturedrome Electric Theatre Co.)

Happy cinema-going!

Happy 80th Birthday to Us!

The Plaza Cinema opened its doors on Monday 10th July 1933, and today, Wednesday 10th July 2013 we celebrate our 80th birthday!

The first film shown here was “King Kong” – said to be the first screening of this film outside London. Originally we had just one screen, with stalls and a balcony. Now, we have four screens. Screen 2 used to be a cafe, believe it or not!

Over the years we’ve hosted a few events, including a premiere screening of Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and recently many special charity performances, including Toy Story 3 3D at midnight in pyjamas!

On behalf of the Plaza Cinema i’d like to thank all our customers, past and present for their support, and wish the Plaza a very happy 80th Birthday! – Dan (Plaza Staff)
