Parental Guidance (U)

Rating: 4 Stars

I must admit, although this film is rated as ‘U’, I enjoyed it far more than thought I would. I found myself laughing out loud several times. I mean you hear the name ‘Billy Crystal’, you think laughter! And he doesn’t disappoint in this film. But better still; Parental Guidance brings to our lives Billy Crystal and Bette Midler. What could possibly be a better match than that?! The couple play the parents of Alice (played by Marisa Tomei), who wants to be a ‘perfect-parent’ to her 3 high achieving children; Harper (played by Bailee Madison), Turner (played by Joshua Rush) and Barker (played by Kyle Harrison Breitkopf). When her husband is nominated for a big award, she must leave her children, and her tight schedule, in the capable, or rather incapable hands of her parents…

Well, after Alice finally plucks up the courage to leave her beloved family with Crystal and Midler, things seem to calm down. The children are at school on time. Dinner is on the table and eaten without a fuss. Bedtimes are followed and homework is done to the dot… Like that happened! All hell breaks loose. All the rules are broken. But will the grandparents take control again? Will Alice learn to trust her mum and dad and let her children off the leash more? You will have to watch this film and find out..!

The great thing about this film is that whoever sees it, will be able to relate to the characteristics of the individuals.  Although I am nearly 15, I really enjoyed a film which is universally suitable for all ages. It just shows that I am just a big kid at heart! But honestly, all the falling over, food fights and Tony Hawk falling off his skateboard, really makes this film an enjoyable, family movie with flexes of parental humour. This is a film that you must watch! Go on…
