Journey 2: The Mysterious Island – Review

By Katie Maitland-Gleed

Score 4/5

Map… Check! Adventure… Check! Fantasy Island… Check! Beautiful girl… Check! Fun… Check! I could go on forever listing the elements this film has! Whatever you’re interested in this film will include it one way or another. Oh yes… Peck Poppin’… Check! Quick question; what would you do if you got the chance to find a mysterious island with the slight chance of peril? Just a thought!

After a signal is sent to him from his very adventurous grandfather Alexander (played by Michael Caine), intelligent, young explorer, Sean (played by Josh Hutcherson) decides to crack this complicated code in order to unearth this undiscovered island. But after being forced to include his new step-father, Hank (played by Dwayne Johnson), and finally finding a means of travel, Sean’s heart is captured by the stunning Vanessa Hudgens who plays Kailani, the feisty daughter of the local tour guide Gabato, (played by Luis Guzmán). After an unplanned twist of weather, they end up exploring together. But with giant lizards and minute elephants this island is not what was expected… But will they get off the island in time?

I thought this film was rather enjoyable. I won’t lie; I wasn’t looking forward to watching this movie as it looked quite childish, but I found myself laughing quite loudly several times! Ha! See what I mean… Once again, another child’s film that anyone can enjoy! You have to go and watch it just to see Dwayne Johnson do the peck dance!

I give this film:

Extra note : this is currently Jamie’s (Our blog master and Plaza Technician Manager) favourite film of the year. So head in while you can over the next couple of weekends to catch it
