Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3D

Author – Kate Maitland-Gleed

Score – 4/5

Jack Black returns once more, for another ‘awesome’ and entertaining story following the twists and turns in young Po’s life. This time, with the enhancement of 3D, the story follows a similar pattern to Kung Fu Panda 1, but with obvious flash backs for those of you who haven’t seen it before. An impressive cast list includes Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Lucy Liu, Jean Claude Van Damme and the hugely entertaining Jackie Chan.

This film shows Po trying to discover his roots and his inner self. The flash backs (which are made obvious with the use of a pencil drawing type of animation), include distant memories of his life before Kung Fu. With a whole other matter on his hands as well, this discovery of himself is put on hold but he suddenly finds a crossroads in these paths. Po’s father, Mr. Ping (played by James Hong), has a slightly bigger role this time and most scenes are very dramatically performed. He shows the love for his son and helps him on his tough journey. Help also is at hand, along with assists from the other four Kung Fu Warriors from Tigress (Angelina Jolie), who we see a whole new side of as she relates to Po’s fears and concerns. The road is tough for the striking 6 but will they rejoice or run aground on the evil plans of Lord Shen (Gary Oldman). Will Po find the answers he is looking for and survive without dumplings and noodles?! You’ll have to watch and find out…..

If you’re not a big fan of 3D, then to see it in 2D will not spoil your enjoyment. I give it a rating as it is very enjoyable but just not that easy to follow in places. With some humorous times and some moving times, this film is a fantastic family movie to watch together and enjoy.
